Easy and Tender Slow Cooker Pot Roast Recipe

There’s something so comforting about a freshly cooked pot roast. This post walks you through a super simple slow cooker pot roast recipe. The great thing about slow cooking with this roast recipe is that it gets nice and fork-tender and fills your home with the most amazing smells. We make this recipe year-round, but it’s absolutely perfect for when the weather is starting to get colder. Our favorite way to eat this roast recipe is with rice and gravy, but there are many other delicious ways to eat it as well!

Now, let’s walk through what you’ll need for this recipe and the simple steps to get to your tender, delicious slow cooker pot roast.

Equipment

  • Slow cooker/Crock pot
  • Cutting  Board
  • Large Knife

Ingredients

  • 3-5 pound pot roast 
  • 1 large yellow onion
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Beef boullion 
  • 4 cups water or beef broth/stock

Instructions

  1. First, prep your pot roast by drying it with a cloth or paper towels to remove excess moisture.
  2. Next, season the roast with salt and pepper on both sides and around edges of roast.  
  3. Then, chop up the onion and garlic.
  4. Next, place the roast in the slow cooker and sprinkle the onions and garlic around it.
  5. Then, pour the water in around the roast and add the beef boullion (no need to mix it up).
  6. Set the slow cooker for 9 hours on low.
  7. Finally, enjoy your delicious roast!

Ingredients

  • 4 Tbsp butter
  • 4 Tbsp flour
  • 2 cups juice from pot roast
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Melt butter in a saucepan on medium heat.

  2. Next, whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes.

  3. Then, add the juice from the pot roast. 

  4. Whisk until smooth.

  5. Finally, season to taste. The juice from the pot roast may have all the seasoning you prefer so taste the gravy and then add salt and pepper to your preference.
