Dips are the perfect way to round out a meal. Personally, I love all different types of dips and enjoy dipping anything and everything! In addition, this greek yogurt dip recipe is not only delicious, but it’s also clean and good for you. Also, there will be different variations for this dip recipe included in this post. One version will be using fresh ingredients and the other will be a matter of simply adding the right ratio of seasonings.

What is Greek Yogurt?

Greek yogurt is essentially what you get when you strain some whey out of regular yogurt. Essentially, yogurt is made and then put through a straining process to remove much of the whey (liquid) to produce a much thicker and creamier product that is greek yogurt.

What Are The Benefits of Using Greek Yogurt?

So, for a yogurt dip, you always have the option to use regular yogurt. The reason this recipe uses Greek yogurt is because it has a thick texture and holds together well. Also, the Greek yogurt creates more of a dip consistency rather than a sauce consistency which tends to be a little thinner. Some of the actual benefits of Greek yogurt are as follows:

  • Contains probiotics – As with any yogurt, Greek yogurt contains gut-friendly probiotics which are great for supporting your gut flora and promoting gut health.
  • High protein – Greek yogurt is special because unlike other yogurts, it contains a high amount of protein which is great for feeling satiated and great for a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
  • Thick and creamy – As mentioned earlier, Greek yogurt is a thicker, creamier form of yogurt due to some of the yogurt whey being strained out.

Can You Use Greek Yogurt Instead of Sour Cream for Dips?

You can absolutely use Greek yogurt as a substitute for sour cream in dip recipes. In fact, I much prefer using Greek yogurt instead of sour cream for any sort of sour cream/yogurt dip recipe because Greek yogurt has the benefits of gut-friendly bacteria as well as a high protein content. Truly, Greek yogurt just has a lot more to offer health-wise.

We will start with the fresh version of this dip and then move into the easier version for those in a rush. Now, let’s get to cooking!
