Homemade Sweet and Salty Granola

Granola is such a versatile food. Whether you are adding it to a healthy breakfast for a nice crunch or having it as a snack, it always feels like such a treat. Oats can be prepared many different ways, and this sweet and salty granola recipe is just one of the many wonderful ways to enjoy them. Additionally, oats have been touted as a galactagogue, which allegedly increase breast milk production. If you are a busy mother, this may be a good recipe to try. Also, if you are just a busy person in general, this will be a delicious, quick recipe to add to your weekly menu.

Ingredients

Rolled oats – Oats are the base of this recipe. I prefer to use sprouted organic rolled oats because I find them easier to digest.

Coconut oil – Coconut oil acts as a binder and helps the granola achieve that nice golden brown color.

Pumpkin seeds – Pumpkin seeds are a great healthy fat to add to this granola. I also use sprouted organic pumpkin seeds. Feel free to get creative and personalize your granola by adding different kinds of nuts and seeds like walnuts, pecans, flax seeds, etc.

Maple syrup – Maple syrup is a healthier way to add some natural sweetness to the mix. The amount of maple syrup in this recipe can be increased or decreased depending on your personal taste.

Vanilla extract – Vanilla extract adds some depth to the flavor profile while enhancing the sweetness.

Salt – Salt of course adds that nice salty kick to this otherwise sweet granola recipe.

Breakfast Ideas

  • Greek yogurt with granola: Greek yogurt is packed with protein and is the perfect, tangy base for a sweet and salty granola topping.
  • Granola-topped smoothie: There are so many different types of smoothies you can make from a high protein smoothie to a simple fruit smoothie and granola makes the perfect crunchy topper.
  • Trail mix: By simply adding some nuts and dried fruits (and whatever else you like in your trail mix), you can create your own homemade trail mix.

You can simply eat this sweet and salty granola on the side of whatever breakfast you’re already eating. Also, this granola can be eaten by itself as a snack. I love having granola on hand for on-the-go snacking so I’m not tempted to pick up that bag of chips or pre-made trail mix from the gas station. Granola is so easy to throw together, even beginners can be confident making this sweet and salty granola recipe. In addition, this is a very quick recipe taking around 25 minutes from start to finish, so making this regularly can easily fit into a busy schedule. Now, let’s get to baking!
